The Minor Soldier, is a lightweight fighting caste. Like all soldier caste ants, its only purpose in life is to fight for the survival of its colony. Minor soldiers are bred specifically for mass production, they don't cost much food to grow so can easily overwhelm their enemy with vast numbers. The Minor Soldier has the unique ability to "sentry" workers who are gathering leaves. When Idling near workers, they will automatically pair up with a worker and protect them, not only does this co-ordinated mixing of soldiers and workers already make it more difficult for opponents to destroy the work force, this also gives the pair a slight defensive bonus.
